Goals and Statistics

Salt Lake County Animal Services Goals

We are committed to serving the animals and citizens in the cities we service with compassion and respect.

90% Live Release Rate

Euthanasia is an unfortunate reality in the animal services industry. The uncontrolled breeding of animals has led to a much larger animal population than the demand for pets can sustain. Despite our best efforts and those of other animal services organizations, there are simply more animals than we have the capacity to house for very long.

In an unusual move for a county government-run animal facility, we have set ourselves the goal of becoming a 90% Live Release Shelter by only euthanizing animals too sick, injured, or dangerous to be adopted. We hope to accomplish this status through discount adoption initiatives, increased rescue efforts, and longer animal holding times. But we need your help! Our space and budget are very limited considering the sheer volume of stray animals in our community.
